The principle of the stress breaker attachment ASC 52 (there are several types of attachments including stress breakers), is based on the special adaptation principle of the ball/socket joint with the dental prosthesis. Its more interesting characteristics allows:

a) the mobile portion of the prosthesis more or less movement possibilities, adapted to each circumstance.

b) To this very mobile portion, a solid attachment to abutments without overloading them. Thus, the partial prosthesis is securely attached in the mouth.

c) The prosthesis can be easily inserted and removed without risk to abutments.

d) In each case, the possibility of adapting the mechanism's action. By adjusting the spring's tension (by tightening or untightening the small screw), increased or decreased prosthesis retention is obtained.

e) The replacement of any part of the mechanism at any time (wear, damage, accidents)..

f) An easy mounting for the dental laboratory

The ASC 52 female and male (housing and internal part) can thus be soldered with any alloy utilised in dentistry.

Conclusion: the ASC 52 can be used in any case which requires a stress breaker. SPHERICAL MODEL

Of all the ASC 52's, the spherical model (spherical slider) which has the greatest possibilities of movement.

It can be used in any case but in particular: :

a) for bilateral prostheses with free saddle linked by a lingual bar

b) in cases where the anchoring teeth are less solid, for example in the lower jaw.

The spherical ASC 52 should not be combined with more rigid attachments such as hooks or precision sliders for example.

In fact, the anchoring teeth mounted with spherical ASC 52's will support fewer constraints, whereas the teeth subjected to a greater and more rigid force transmission by hooks will sustain a greater part of the constraints.
